Ajax against Barcelona, PSG and APOEL Nicosia

De draw for the group stage of the champions league linked Ajax to Barcelona, PSG and APOEL Nicosia. Barcelona is the only one of the three opponents that Ajax played against before in official matches, the champions league confrontations from last season. This summer former Ajax players Luis Suarez and Thomas Vermaelen were contracted by Barcelona. The former Ajax players Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Maxwell and Gregory van der Wiel have already been playing for a while at PSG. An Ajax connection with APOEL Nicosia is that Nikos Machlas ended his career at this club.
