Frans Schoevaart
Born on : 1884-07-27
Died on : 1955-03-07
Appointed : 1918
Frans Schoevaart was at least from 1905 playing for Ajax and participates in a large part in Ajax' rise to the national top. During the first period in the first division there were some problems between a part of the first team squad and Frans Schoevaart, who was not happy with the performance and the results. Ultimately Ajax relegated after three seasons to the second division and Frans Schoevaart, together with goalkeeper Gerard Ziegeler and Joop Pelser, Joop van Dort, Frits Terwee and Theo Brokmann Sr. belonged to a small group of players that stayed loyal to Ajax. Frans Schoevaart remained to be a member of the squad for two seasons after the relegation and afterwards made sporadic appearances in friendly matches. Frans Schoevaart was able to play in various positions, saw himself as a central striker, but mostly played as back with his brother Jan Schoevaart often on the position of Spil. Perhaps because he often played with his brother he we often referred to with his nickname “Swift”. Frans Schoevaart was also active for Ajax outside of pitch, initially mostly as committee member, and he was rewarded for all his efforts by becoming a honorary member at the start of season 1918-19. At the end of the 20ies and beginning of the 30ies Frans Schoevaart was ythe president of Ajax. Currently we have Frans Schoevaart at 59 official matches for Ajax in our archive, but this should be significantly more because we only have limited information for the seasons Ajax was appearing in the second division. It could even be the case he belongs to the club of 100, but as the second divisions were only playing with groups of 7, 8 or 9 teams there were not many official matches each season.

Jan Grootmeijer
Born on : 1887-06-25
Died on : 1957-10-09
Jan Grootmeijer was in the period 1910-1920 a forward playing for Ajax. Before that he played for VVV (from Amsterdam). He was mainly a rightwinger and was one of the starting squad the year Ajax promoted to the first division and the first period in the first division, when he formed Ajax' attack with players like Piet van den Broecke, Henk Alofs and Louis Seylhouwer. After the relegation to the second division Jan Grootmeijer remained with Ajax. Not only on the pitch, but he also became secretary shortly thereafter. He became one of Ajax' faces for this period. Even after Ajax promoted to the first division for the second time Jan Grootmeijer still played the occassional match for this first squad for a number of seasons. Probably this was due to the fact he was normally traveling with the team and was prepared to jump in when this was necessary at a last moments notice. Jan Grootmeijer became a honory member of Ajax.

Jan de Boer
Born on : 1898-08-29
Died on : 1988-07-01
Appointed : 1942
Jan de Boer joined the Ajax youth when he was 13 and in season 1920-21 he defended the Ajax 1 goal for the first time. Jan de Boer was a well regardded goalkeeper, became an international, although he only played few matches and was mostly the second choice goalkeeper for the Dutch national squad. During a period of 13 seasons Jan de Boer is probably the best goalkeeper that Ajax had, still Jan de Boer only played 195 official matches for Ajax 1. This was mainly because Jan de Boer had problems with the regulations that in his eyes allowed fieldplayers to attack the goalkeepers too much. He was injured because of such attacks several times, but also withdrew as goalkeeper of Ajax 1 several times (causing Jan van Heeswijk and Jan Bonneveld to play several matches as goalkeepers during this period as well) only to return each time Ajax asked him.

Joop Pelser
Born on : 1892-03-17
Died on : 1974-07-27
Joop Pelser werd na afloop van de tweede wereldoorlog wegens zijn collaboratie geroyeerd als lid van Ajax, waarbij hem ook het erelidmaatschap werd afgenomen.
Joop Pelser was active for Ajax from season 1910-11 until 1923-24, and from season 1912-13 onwards he was a regular player, mostly on the midfield, and longtime captain of Ajax. Joop Pelser came to Ajax with his three brothers Adriaan, Jan and Fons because of the merger with Holland. After first Jan (as goalkeeper) and Adriaan played for Ajax 1, also Joop and later Fons, made their appearance. Joop played many matches as spil with Frits Terwee and Henk Hordijk on the midfield and his brother Fons and Frans Couton as backs. Besides being active as a player, Joop was also a member of the board, as he was already during his active playing career active as commissioner and 2nd secretary.
