Why does AZ think they should be allocated the first Champions League ticket
07/09/2020
UEFA has given the national federations a lot of freedom to designate tickets for the European competitions for the 2020-21 season. The only thing that really matters is that the decision must be made on the basis of sporting grounds and that it is transparent, objective and non-discriminatory.
The KNVB has decided to use the rankings as it was at the end of the competition, so on the same basis as the competition would have been completed, namely first on the basis of points achieved, and with an equal number of points on the basis of the goal difference.
AZ's argument is that this is not objective. AZ has played against other opponents than Ajax, so subjective, so according to UEFA this should not be applied.
AZ thinks that the results in the matches between both clubs is objective (AZ-Ajax and Ajax-AZ have both been played) and that the decision should therefore be made on the basis of those matches.
