The Result of the Fluwelen Revolutie - Results
05/20/2015
During the season 2010-11 the Fluwelen Revolutie started and now that we are a few seasons further in time it is a good moment to investigate what has changed. We will do so by several objective and quantitative comparisons between the last two seasons before the Fluwelen Revolutie (2008-09 and 2009-10) and the seasons
2013-14 and 2014-15.
Earlier we made a comparison of the players under contract. In this article we will look at the results of Ajax in the various competitions it participated in.
Eredivisie
We will compare the position and the amounts of points in the final standings. The results are as follows:Season | Position | Points |
---|---|---|
2014-15 | 2 | 71 |
2013-14 | 1 | 71 |
2009-10 | 2 | 85 |
2008-09 | 3 | 68 |
Although the positions this and previous season are an improvement, the acquired points are not, and because of the latter we cannot conclude that Ajax has improved its results in the Eredivisie after the Fluwelen Revolutie.
Dutch Cup
The results in the Dutch Cup are as follows:Season | Result |
---|---|
2014-15 | Last 16 |
2013-14 | Losing Finalist |
2009-10 | Winner |
2008-09 | Third Round |
The results before and after the Fluwelen Revolutie are similar.
European Competitions
We will look at the position and points in the group stage and the results in the knockout stage. The results are as follows:Season | Position Group Stage | Points Group Stage | Knockout Stage |
---|---|---|---|
2014-15 | 3 | 5 | Last 16 |
2013-14 | 3 | 8 | Last 32 |
2009-10 | 2 | 11 | Last 32 |
2008-09 | 2 | 7 | Last 32 |
Note that in season 2008-09 the group stage in the Europa League existed of 5 teams and 4 matches. In seasons 2008-09 and 2009-10 Ajax played the group stage in the Europa League, in 2013-14 and 2014-15 in the Champions Leauge, making a comparison difficult. In the knockout stage in the Europa League Ajax was eliminated at a similar stage.
Conclusion
One might have expected the Fluwelen Revolutie would lead to better results but based on the comparisons we made above, it is clear that until now this has not been the case. Our Latest News
