Mitchell Dijks Returns to Ajax?
05/21/2015
At the start of this season Mitchell Dijks was allowed to go to Willem II because he was fourth choice at his position. Now that it turns out the leftback position is not as well covered as expected and Mitchell had a good season at Willen II, Ajax is rumoured to consider getting Mitchell back to Ajax. Returning former Ajax players is not a new thing and for this situation we composed a Complete Overview of all soccer players that came back to Ajax.
A return after only one season would be fast, but not the fastest ever. This records is in the hands of Kenneth Perez who came back within 6 months after leaving Ajax for PSV at the start of season 2007-08.
This overview contains, besides players like Mitchell who did not manage to succeed at Ajax during their first term (for example Niklas Moisander, Derk Boerrigter and Ronald de Boer) also players who already had a successful period at Ajax, had a successful period abroad, and returned to Ajax. This second category contains some successes (for example Frank Rijkaard and Johan Cruijff) but also some cases where probably both player and club had expected more (for example Mido, Sonny Silooy and Richard Witschge).
Rafael van der Vaart is also mentioned as a possible addition to next seasons Ajax squad. The future will tell us whether Mitchell and Rafael will be added to the returning players list.
