In Memoriam Gert Bals
05/25/2016
Gert Bals, former goalkeeper of Ajax, passed away last Friday at the age of 79 years. Gert Bals was as goalkeeper five seasons an important part of the team that head coach Rinus Michels formed in the 60s and with which Ajax would end up winning the European Cup I three times. You could argue that Gert Bals unfortunately was born prematurely several years, because only after he left Ajax in the summer of 1970 (when he was almost 34 years old) to Vitesse, Ajax won the European Cup three times I. Gert Bals did become domestic champion with Ajax 4 times.
