Summary
Frans Schoevaart was at least from 1905 playing for Ajax and participates in a large part in Ajax' rise to the national top. During the first period in the first division there were some problems between a part of the first team squad and Frans Schoevaart, who was not happy with the performance and the results. Ultimately Ajax relegated after three seasons to the second division and Frans Schoevaart, together with goalkeeper Gerard Ziegeler and Joop Pelser, Joop van Dort, Frits Terwee and Theo Brokmann Sr. belonged to a small group of players that stayed loyal to Ajax. Frans Schoevaart remained to be a member of the squad for two seasons after the relegation and afterwards made sporadic appearances in friendly matches. Frans Schoevaart was able to play in various positions, saw himself as a central striker, but mostly played as back with his brother Jan Schoevaart often on the position of Spil. Perhaps because he often played with his brother he we often referred to with his nickname “Swift”. Frans Schoevaart was also active for Ajax outside of pitch, initially mostly as committee member, and he was rewarded for all his efforts by becoming a honorary member at the start of season 1918-19. At the end of the 20ies and beginning of the 30ies Frans Schoevaart was ythe president of Ajax. Currently we have Frans Schoevaart at 59 official matches for Ajax in our archive, but this should be significantly more because we only have limited information for the seasons Ajax was appearing in the second division. It could even be the case he belongs to the club of 100, but as the second divisions were only playing with groups of 7, 8 or 9 teams there were not many official matches each season.
