Summary
At the start of season 1924-25 Dolf van Kol came to join Ajax from 't Gooi and originally played as an attacker. Soon he was changed to a leftback and on this position he became aone of the most important players of Ajax, as well as captain, and also played several interlands for the Dutch squad. Van Kol played 8 seasons for Ajax and the at that time 30 year old Van Kol could possibly have gone on longer, but at the start of season 1932033 he became a paid trainer for another club, and according to the regulations paid trainers were not allowed to play official matches as amateurs. The importance of Van Kol for Ajax is emphasized by the fact that Ajax, after having become the domestic champion two seasons in a row, starts poorly without Van Kol in season 1932-33, drops several points, and loses the division championship.
