Dutch Competition
Ajax does not have a good start of the competition, but Quick seems to be the most likely candidate to have to play the promotion relegation matches that come with ending up at the last position in the competition. In round 8 Ajax beats Quick and with that just has its second win, with only one draw. For Quick that match was the 8th loss in a row. However Quick is starting to gather points after that round, and because they also protest against one of their losses which is subsequently turned into a draw, after round 14 Quick has 11 points, while Ajax is in the last position with just 8 points. In the 15th round Ajax looses from Quick with 5-0, and the gap to the safe 9th position is too large, also because other competitors keep gathering points as well. Ajax plays the promotion relegation competition with Hercules, looses the first match at home and away does not get further than a draw, which makes the relegation a fact.
Beker
Ajax enters the Dutch Cup competition again and just like the previous seasons as a first division team starts in the 3rd round. The first opponent is DVV, who are beaten by the second team (because Ajax first team plays another match on the same day). In the next round (last 16), Ajax plays an away game against Amsterdam 3rd division club VVA and is beaten with 5-0. Things are not as bad as the result seem, the referee misses offside with 3 of the goals, one of the goals is a suicide goal, and Ajax plays most of the 2nd half with 10 men, but it is clear early in the season that it will be a tough season for Ajax.
Lineup
From the previous season Jan Grootmeijer and Toon Kooi are no longer available, while Adriaan Pelser and Frans Schoevaart are only called upon in case of emergency. Ajax keeps changing the lineup during the season, especially in the attack, so there is not really a recurring lineup. Players who played a lot are: Gerard Ziegeler (goal), Cornelis Swarttouw, Jean Gilissen (defence) Joop Pelser, Jan Schoevaart and Ge Fortgens (midfield and stopper spil), Joop van Dort, Piet Prins, Theo Brokmann Sr., F. Hartigh and Nico Buwalda (forwards). Note that Piet Prins was only available for the first part of the season. Fons Pelser (6), Wim Willemse (5), Adriaan Pelser (4), Frans Schoevaart (4), Frits Terwee (4), Wim Vermeer (4) also play several matches, while Jager van den Berg, Henk van Dort, Theo Houtman, and Chris van Wintershoven (goalkeeper) make one appearance.

The Golden Head
Ajax is member of the association of first division teams called The Golden Head (Het Gouden Hoofd), who have a meeting in July, to, amongst other things, discuss some proposal for changes in regulations suggested during a meeting of the Dutch soccer assocation.
First Division South
This season it is for the first time that next to the first division west and east a first division south is introduced. The three winners of the competitions play a competition for the national title.
Cancellations
One of the problems is to let spectators know when a match is cancelled, so that they do not have to show up at the stadium to find out. This season Ajax works with taxis and trams in Amsterdam to show with red and white flags when matches will be played.
Annual General Meeting
During Ajax' annual general meeting the board members Egeman, Holst, Schutte, Reeser, Fetter and Hemmes are reelected. Jan Schoevaart did not make himself available for reelection. As committee members J. Pelser was reelected and J. Grootmeijer and F. Schoevaart were elected. Shortly hereafter a special general meeting was held because part of the Ajax squad members were not happy with the board member election. After discussions part of the board members, including the president, decide to step down. The meeting is suspended and continued one week later. On Dade's suggestion a committee is formed, with Dade, Egeman and Holst, to resolve the conflict between Schoevaart (not clear which one) and the players of the first team that do not want to play with him anymore. The boardmembers that earlier stepped down agree to be reinstated, conditionally.
Squadcommittee
There is a squad committee that composes the squads for each match. This committee becomes under pressure when the results are poor. On the night before the round 8 match against Quick a special general meeting is called in which a vote of mistrust is spoken out against the squad committee. Ajax wins the match, so that things do not escalate. The spokesman of the opposition is not named in the newspapers, but it is stated that this is a player who seems in himself the central striker for Ajax, a player that did not make a good name for himself and Ajax as a defender, and who announced at the start of the season he would not play anymore. Based on this information Frans Schoevaart is the likely spokesman, because he was known for his rough play as a defender, announced he was no longer available at the start of the season, and later does return as striker.
Relegation
In those days it was not easy to relegate, even a last position did still result in a double confrontation with the second division, but still Ajax succeeded, a unique result in Ajax' history. If we look at the player material now it seems to have been unnecessary. However it seems there was a lot of disagreement behind the screens, of which only a small part became public. Possibly this also resulted in the many changes in the attack, where it might have been better to give and keep trust in new players who wanted to play for Ajax, instead of going back to old players.

Information about lineups and goalscorers this season is incomplete and unreliable. The main source used are newspaper reports and information often differs between different newspapers, sometimes newspapers also explicitly mention it is unknown when a goal is scored, and it is common that it is only mentioned that certain regular players are not playing, not who is playing instead. As much as possible we try to point out the information we are uncertain about.
