Dutch Competition

Ajax starts the competition very well, for the first time drops a point in the 9th competition match and at the end of 1918 has won 11 and drawn 2 and the competition is far behind. In the remainder of the competition only one draw will follow, the rest of the matches are won, so that Ajax wins the division championship again. Blauw-Wit becomes second 11 points behind Ajax. In the champions competition Ajax stays unbeaten for the first 7 matches, but because of 3 draws Go Ahead is able to stay near Ajax and the championship is not sure yet. Because the last match of Ajax is moved from a Thursday (Hemelvaartsdag) to the next Sunday and Go Ahead looses their last game, Ajax becomes champion without playing. Ajax wins the last game, so stays unbeaten throughout the domestic competition.

There is no Dutch Cup competition during this season.

Lineup

The regular starting lineup hardly differs from previous season: Jan Smit (goalkeeper), Frans Couton and Fons Pelser (defense), Henk Hordijk, Joop Pelser, and Frits Terwee (midfield and stopper spil), Jan de Natris, Joop van Dort, Theo Brokmann Sr., Hein Delsen and Wim Gupffert (forwards). Only the inner left forward position is now for Hein Delsen (AFC), where last season mostly Rinus Lucas and Frans de Haan were playing.positie wordt nu door de van AFC overgekomen Hein Delsen ingevuld, waar vorig seizoen Rinus Lucas and Frans de Haan speelden. Joop Pelser is captain. Official matches are mostly played with the regular lineup, but due to injuries the following players also play official matches: Cor Andriesse (when Smit is not available), Frans de Haan, André Maassen, Ger Kooge, J.H. de Vos, Jan Grootmeijer and Jan Goosen.

Annual Meeting

Besides the good results on the pitch also the organization and the club as a whole are doing well. Ajax grew with 150 members and participated with 11 teams in the various organized competitions (which became 15 teams this season). There is a plan to increase the covered stands of the stadium. The board is composed as follows: W.P. Egeman president, H.D. Dade 2nd president, J.J. Grootmeijer secretary, M.J. Koolhaas 2nd secretary, Tjerk de Munnik treasurer, H.R. Reyenga 2nd treasurer. J. Ph. Geerlings, Joop Pelser and P.J. Prins committee members. Frans Schoevaart announced he did not like to be considered to be re-elected as committee member and because of his work for the club he is offered to become a honorary member. Furthermore the following committees are formed: team-committee: J.J. Grootmeijer, M.J. Koolhaas, P.J. van Os, Oudheusden, inquiry committee: W.F. Egeman, H.D. Dade, Tjerk de Munnik, J. Ph. Geerlings, M.J. Koolhaas, audit committee: J. Stallman, J. Ph. de Waal, J.S. Gunsel.

First Division West

The formula with which the two first divisions west would coexists remained to be an item for discussions. At the end of the previous season it seemed an agreement was reached to postpone any mixing until after the war and for now only let the numbers last of each of the two groups relegate (to the second division), before the start of the new season the B teams showed their disagreement and tried to achieve a faster mixing of the two divisions.

The Golden Head (Het Gouden Hoofd)

During a meeting of the Golden Head (Het Gouden Hoofd) there is a discussion about the fact that the board sent a letter to the soccer association indication Ajax and Blauw-Wit had not adhered to the amateur regulations after a complaint by Sparta. This was specifically concerning travel compensation for girlfriends and wives of players. Both Ajax and Blauw-Wit do not agree with the action of the board of the Golden Head, to communicate these accussations to the NVB without hearing Ajax or Blauw-Wit and without any investigation. In addition both deny that they are unwilling to adhere to the amateur regulation with respect to travel expenses, although they do favor a modifications of these regulations. The result is that the board members are replaced and the Golden Head writes another letter to the soccer association to retract the earlier one.

Ajax - AFC results in problems

During the home match against AFC for the champions competition problems occur both on the stands and on the pitch. In total 4 players are sent off and for Jan de Natris and Toon Kooi this has as effect that they are removed from the selection of the Dutch national squad. It is announced later that Hein Delser will be suspended for one year, Jan de Natris for 3 months and Toon Kooi (AFC) for 2 months.

After the season end Ajax goes on a tour to Denmark and Sweden on invitation of some clubs to play matches.The following players go on the tour: Jan Smit, Fons Pelser, Frans Couton, Frits Terwee, Joop Pelser, Henk Hordijk, Wim Gupffert, Hein Delsen, Theo Brokmann Sr., Joop van Dort, Jan de Natris, Cor Andriesse, Ger Kooge, André de Kruijff, Frans de Haan, Jan Goosen, A.J. ten Herkel.

Gouden Meer Cup

For the Gouden Meer Cup this season only one match between Willem II and Quick (Nijmegen) was played. Because of the busy schedule of Ajax the remainder of the competition has been postponed until next season.
