Dutch Competition

Ajax had a reasonable season in the First Division West A, but was not stable enough to be a contender for the division title. Ajax ended third 9 points behind the division champion RCH. RCH was also able to win the domestic championship just ahead of Eindhoven and Sparta.

Beker

There was no Dutch Cup competition during this season.

Lineup

The following players were used a lot: Aad Visser (goalkeeper), Ger van Mourik and Hans Boskamp (defense), Co Bouwens, Gerrit Krist, and Klaas Bakker (midfield and stopper spil), Rolf Leeser, Ge van Dijk, Rinus Michels, Arend van der Wel, and Toon Standaar (attack). Van Dijk was the captain. During the course of the season Eddy Pieters Graafland (6) took over from Aad Visser, while also Jan van Drecht (1) came into action. Klaas Bakker played in the attack as well. On the midfield amongst others Henk Elzer (11), Jo Behrens (6), Bobby Haarms (4) played as well. The following players also played official matches: Wim Huis (6), Max Goedkoop (5), Leen Bartels (4), Theo de Groot (3), Gerard Bruins (2) and Jan Potharst (2).

Coach

The first part of the season Robert Thomson was the coach. From January 1 onwards Karel Kaufman temporarily took over. From the beginning of March Willy Stejskal took over.

Joop Stoffelen

Joop Stoffelen came back from France after playing professional soccer for two years and wanted to play for Ajax again. He requested the Dutch soccer association to get amateur status again, but the association had already denied a similar request for another player recently, because it wanted to scare amateur players to not make the move to professional soccer. Only a lot later it was made clear that Joop Stoffelen would only in March 1955 be allowed to play soccer again.

Lineups

Especially in the second half of the season not much is known about lineups and because from what is known it is clear that Ajax made regular changes in midfield and attack, our educated guesses for who played are not very reliable.
